Mom has Cancer, need help for Easter Present!?

My mom has just been diagnosed with cancer and she has cleaned out this bedroom in our house just for scrap booking. It’s something she loves to do so I was thinking I would order some nice scrap booking paper. I don’t want to get a scrap book for her because shes picky about that so I think paper would be easier to get. Anyways, here are some options.

Which one is your favorite?
Help is appreciated! :D

I am so sorry to hear about your Mother and I will say a prayer for her. I kinda liked the third one but I searched for others and would you look at the site below before you make your decision. It gives you a great number of different ones and I guess the first ad is the one to catch my eye and to look at the rest. Show your Mom as much love as you can.

Please look at this site as there are about 100 different choices and you may wind up wanting your Mom to make her choice.

Digital scrapbooking…?

Does anyone have any info on digital scrapbooking? I take so many pictures of my new baby, and I would like to scrapbook, but I think it’d be more practical to do this on a computer. I’m not really familiar with this, but I’ve just recently heard of it. Are there any good websites that could give me a tutorial? Is digital scrapbooking cheaper than regular scrapbooking?

There are loads of digital sites with many giving away free kits and RAK’s (random acts of kindness). If you really want to get started you need to have something like photo shop elements as a programme. A couple of sites that I use are http//www.snapandscrap.net where you can complete challenges every month for free kit. They also do a newsletter with tutorials etc. Another good give away site is scrapwow.net. and their sister site RAK which has a link from scrapwow

Scrapgirls.com also is dedicated to digi scrapping and do a newsletter with a freebie every few days and lots of tutorials.

Just get in there and take the plunge.

It is definitely cheaper as you can use the stuff again and again, but you don’t get the touching you get with paper albums. I do both

Best way to cut pictures for scrapbooking?

I have a bunch of pictures at the developer and I want to start scrapbooking. I need some advice on how to cut them to size for my pages. I was planning on using an exacto blade and a ruler. I don’t have much money left because I spent plenty on scrapbooking supplies. Would using an exacto blade or scissors be alright? I want to make sure the pictures are straight.

Also….

If you have any scrapbooking advice or links for beginners that would be greatly appreciated.

Hello – I explained this in your other question, cut the paper itself and put your picture behind the paper so you don’t have to cut your actual picture and it looks neater. Use an exacto knife to cut shapes out. It will be like matting for a picture frame

Can anyone recommend a good online store in Canada for scrapbookers?

Live in Saskatchewan and would like to find an online store to purchase from in Canada.

JoAnn’s sells online, but I don’t know if they ship from within Canada. EBay actually has a ton of scrapbooking stuff. You can refine your search to addresses within a certain radius, which would only show you Canadian sellers. It’s in the vertical box on the left-hand side of the screen, once you’ve gotten to a category of stuff.

If it were me, I’d use Google. Go to www.google.com and type "scrapbooking stores online Canada" in the search box that comes up. Hit Enter. If you get too many to deal with, refine your search and try again.

What makes your favorite scrapbook store appealing?

Why do you go to your favorite scrapbook store? Is it because they have the biggest paper collection? Or the more helpful, knowledgable employees?

What is it that you like best about your favorite scrapbook stores?

Thanks!

Well I would have to say that the best thing about my local scrapbook store is the wonderful, knowledgeable employees! They are so wonderful. If there is a new technique or product, they take the time to show me how to do it. If I have a page that is not quite working right, I can take it in and they make helpful suggestions. They have helped me with ideas for gift scrapbooks.

My local store also offers great classes using all the hottest items. The will also let customers book the "scrap room" for free in order to have little crop sessions with friends. That is always fun and give us a chance to spread out our work more than we could at home. This store has cards for frequent shoppers. One is, take ten classes, get one class free. Another is a 10% discount with an extra 5-10% off on select products each month.

Of course, product quality and selection is always a must. With out that, no one would purchase much. And a good clearance or sale section is a bonus (it’s my first stop every time I go into my local store)!

Hope that helps!

Boyfriend Christmas present?

Okay, I’ve got less than a week until Christmas and I need help. I need an awesome idea as to what to get my boyfriend. I’ve got a couple ideas in mind, but I need something else to finish it off, I think. I want it to be something useful (not like lists, letters, coupons– i do stuff like that randomly all the time, haha), and nothing involving pictures, because I gave him a really nice scrapbook for a different occasion. Yeah… help, please. He’s not the type to point anything out, ever, or drop hints, so… yep. Here I am, lol.

Socks! Everyone loves socks!

How can I blur or soften edges of photos with PhotoShop Elements?

It is for scrapbooking. Anybody have any tutorials?

Two approaches…

Open the image you want to process.
Check to see what the dimensions and resolution are.
Before you do anything to the image, open a new blank file.
Check the dimension and resolution of the new file.
- If they don’t match your original, change them.
Fill the new file with any color you want for your background color.
Go back to your original file.
Choose the eliptical marquee tool.
Set the feather to 10-20 pixels.
Select an oval around your main subject.
Copy it with [CTRL]+[C].
Go back to the file with your background color.
Display the copied selection with [CTRL]+[V].
Merge the visible layers with [CTRL]+[SHIFT]+[E].
Voila!

—[ALTERNATE APPROACH]—
—[Stolen from another answer]—

1. Add a new blank layer to the image
2. Use the elliptical marquee tool to draw where you want the vignette.
3. Go to Select>Feather and enter the radius to make it fade. Use something like 20-30 to start, depending on the size of the image, but you can go as large as 250 if you want a very gradual fade.
4. Hit Shift+Ctrl+I or go to Select>Inverse
5. Go to Edit>Fill and fill with black or any other color.
6. Hit Ctrl+D to deselect.

Because it’s on another layer, you can adjust the opacity of your vignette or add a layer mask to adjust it.

What freebie digital scrapbooking sites should I stay away from?

I am getting into digital scrapbooking, and am excited about all the free stuff you can download online. I am, however, a little aprehensive about downloading. Has anyone ever run into a digital scrapbooking site I should stay away from (spyware, viruses, etc.)? Thanks!

I guess BlueBell would be one that I would stay away from as it doesn’t have as many features as some.

I have only used PhotoMix software for my digital scrapbooking. It works for me as I like to make many collages and such.

Hope that helps :)
